Housing

At the base of Maslow’s Pyramid of heirarchy, is physiological needs which includes “Shelter” or housing. This states that Housing is an essential part of life and sets the stage for other needs further up the pyramid.

It is because the organizers of Race in The Heartland agree, that we ask the tough questions to ensure we are doing our part in creating a diverse and culturally competent tomorrow. Some of those questions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Should housing providers discriminate when it comes to sources of income?
  • Is the rental application fair and equitable?
  • Are city and state government actively collaborating with housing providers to identify and close gaps?
  • Does your city have a concentration of poverty?
  • How does housing, education, workplace, and criminal justice relate?
  • AND MORE…….

While we cant touch on every topic at this year’s conference, we hope to continue exploring all variables in conferences to come.
